"Diba walang trophy sa kanya. Sabi niya yung trophy niya daw is on the way and si baby yun." Sienna Catacutan, CJ Perez's partner
Before CJ Perez was suspended by the NCAA for failing to inform the board of his PBA Draft application, he was set to receive two individual awards -- Mythical Team and All Defensive Team.
However, with all that erased, he set his eyes on getting the championship trophy. Unfortunately, even that did not go his way.
But no worries for Perez, he is still set to have a splendid ending to 2018.
The 24-year old NCAA superstar and his girlfriend, Sienna Catacutan, are expecting a baby girl by the end of the year.
"Mag na-nine months na ako sa Saturday. Due ako last week ng November," shared Catacutan to ABS-CBN Sports after Lyceum's bridesmaid finish.
"Actually, alam mo, diba walang trophy sa kanya. Sabi niya yung trophy niya daw is on the way and si baby yun," she said while caressing her tummy, "Yun na yung pinakapanalo niya this year."
Perez may have felt down answering questions from the press after another runner up finish but when he was asked by ABS-CBN Sports regarding his new role as a father, he beamed with joy.
"Hindi lang yun napakalaking responsibility, parang sobrang blessing yung pagdating ng baby. Kung nanalo pa sana, e 'di dalawang trophy," quipped the expecting father, "Pero yun nga, napakagandang trophy yun para sa akin at para sa kanya [Sienna] siyempre."
To make Perez's 2018 ending sweeter, he is also set to be drafted in the professional ranks. As early as October, Columbian Dyip, which owns the first pick, already expressed serious interest in the Lyceum product.
With that, Perez shared that it really makes him feel proud.
"I'm very happy na mag nu-number one pero yun nga kahit anong team, kahit anong team sa PBA, basta makarating ako sa dream ko. Kasi lahat naman ng basketball player, dream yun eh na pumunta sa PBA. Excited ako para sa next chapter ng basketball career ko," he said.
From ending a stellar NCAA career, to entering the PBA, to reaching a life milestone of being a father, there are a lot of things on Perez's plate. But regardless, he is just very thrilled to explore the next seasons of his life.
"Excited lang ako para sa mga mangyayari sa next chapter talaga. Mas lalo ako excited para sa baby and dun sa PBA. Talagang paghahandaan ko lahat ng mga responsibilities, and adversities na darating sa akin," he said.
