Cesca Racraquin spearheads San Beda University's hunt for glory.
Last year’s runner-up San Beda University and University of Perpetual Help cross paths in an early battle of heavyweights in the NCAA Season 94 women’s volleyball opener at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan Friday.
Action starts at 2:00 p.m. and will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166, LIGA SkyCable Channel 86, LIGA HD SkyCable Channel 183 and via livestream.
The Lady Red Spikers made history last year after closing the elimination round with an 8-1 record and barging in the Finals to face eventual champion Arellano University. San Beda may have bowed down in the title series but the experience it gained will surely help the Lady Red Spikers as they try for another shot at the throne.
The Mendiola-based squad will parade an almost intact line up with Cesca Racraquin and the Viray twins Nieza and Jiezela tipped to be this season’s most dangerous trio.
It has been eight years since the Lady Altas held the title. As season hosts, Perpetual will go all-out to begin its bid to return to its glory days on the right foot.
The Last Pinas-based squad lost middle Lourdes Clemente and starting libero Marijo Medalla but will still be a team to beat with top hitters Jowie Albert Versoza, Blanca Tripoli, Cindy Imbo and setter Necelle Gual returning.
Meanwhile, defending champion Altas battle the Red Spikers at 3:30 p.m. while reigning juniors titlists Junior Altas clash with the Red Cubs at 5:00 p.m.
