NCAA Season 94 volleyball: San Beda eyes hold of lead
San Beda University is on the prowl for its second straight win.

Fresh from a hard-fought opening day win, San Beda University marches back to action on Tuesday against debuting Mapua University in the NCAA Season 94 women’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Game time is at 12:00 noon and will air via livestream.

The Lady Red Spikers outlasted University of Perpetual Help, 25-21, 24-26, 20-25, 26-24, 15-12, in their season opener last Friday.

Nieza Viray and Cesca Racraquin exploded for 24 and 14 points, respectively, in the Lady Red Spikers’ debut. Both are expected to lead San Beda’s charge with Jiezela Viray, Sattriani Espiritu and setter Lynne Matias, who had 34 excellent sets and 32 digs in her first game.

But despite their advantage in firepower, the last year’s runner-up squad is not looking down on their opponent.

“Mahirap kasi mag-underestimate ng mga teams eh kasi minsan yung pacing nila parang kontrapelo sa amin,” said Racraquin. “So yun ang hirap nu’n baka di namin makuha ang play nila. Magpi-play hard kami.”

The Lady Cardinals are coming off back-to-back winless seasons but will be coming into the tournament with an overhauled lineup.
