NCAA Season 94 volleyball: Lady Stags go 2-0
San Sebastian College scored back-to-back wins for a share of the lead in the NCAA Season 94 women's volleyball competition.

Rookie-laden San Sebastian College moved up for a share of the lead after trouncing Mapua University, 25-23, 25-15, 14-25, 25-23, Friday in the NCAA Season 94 women's volleyball competition at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Nikka Dalisay, one of only three veterans left in head coach Roger Gorayeb's lineup, posted 17 points built on 14 kills, two kill blocks and an ace for the Lady Stags, who improved to 2-0 win-loss record tied with defending two-time champion Arellano University and San Beda University.

SSC-R had a scare in the fourth set with the Lady Cardinals threatening to send the game into a decider after gaining momentum in a strong third frame showing, but the Lady Stags were quick to recover to quell Mapua's uprising and seal the one-hour, 35-minute duel.

Ashtara Sarmiento scored 11 points while Joyce Sta. Rita had nine markers for SSC-R, which pulled through despite its atrocious 44 errors.

"Ang hirap kasi nago-on and off ang laro. Wala eh, lumalabas yung pagkabata," said Gorayeb. "Ang bilis nilang ma-distract. Ang bilis nilang mawalan ng loob."

Angelie Mangundayao finished with nine points to pace Mapua, which dropped its second straight game in the season and continued its win drought since 2016.

Meanwhile, the Cardinals outlasted the Stags, 19-25, 25-21, 25-20, 24-26, 17-15 to tie their victim at 1-1 card with Jose Rizal University, Emilio Aguinaldo College and San Beda University.

Angelbert Navas and Alfredo Pagulong hamered a combined 34 attacks in Mapua's 54 kills to finish with 21 points each.

Robbie Pamittan and Nathalian Bunsuan scored 22 and 21 points, respectively, in a lost cause for SSC-R.

In juniors play, the Red Robins bested the Staglets, 16-25, 25-20, 25-19, 25-23, for a 1-1 card while dealing SSC-R its second straight defeat.
