San Sebastian College clash with Mapua University looking to claim its second win and move up to a share of the lead.
San Sebastian College eyes a share of the early lead Friday against Mapua University in the NCAA women’s volleyball competition at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Lady Stags and Lady Cardinals march into battle at 12:00 noon followed by the 2:00 p.m. encounter between Letran and College of St. Benilde. Both games will air via livestream.
SSC-R opened its campaign with a tight, 25-12, 25-21, 17-25, 22-25, 15-9 win over Lyceum of the Philippines University last Monday with Nikka Dalisay showing the way for the Lady Stags with 21 points.
Defending two-time champion Arellano University and San Beda University share the top spot with 2-0 win-loss slates.
Mapua, on the other hand, continues to suffer a long winning drought. Winless since 2016, the Lady Cardinals fell prey to the Lady Red Spikers, 28-30, 17-25, 14-25, last Tuesday in their debut.
Meanwhile, Letran also kicked off its season on a winning note, sweeping past Emilio Aguinaldo College, 25-23, 25-21, 25-16, behind the scoring duo of Manuela Larioque and Charmberlaine Cunada.
But the Lady Knights are sure to find CSB one tough nut to crack despite coming off a painful loss in its opener.
The Lady Blazers showed lots of promise with transferee setter Jewel Lai orchestrating CSB’s play only to fall short to the well-experienced Lady Chiefs, 17-25, 25-20, 18-25, 25-18, 14-16, Tuesday.
But what the Taft-based squad displayed against Arellano is enough to validate that the Jerry Yee-mentor is one of the top contenders this season.
