NCAA Season 94: San Beda keeps share of lead

San Beda University preserved its perfect record after taking down Lyceum of the Philippines University in straight sets.
It only took 73 minutes for unbeaten San Beda University to take down Lyceum of the Philippines University, 25-21, 25-22, 25-16, and list its third straight win Monday in the NCAA Season 94 women's volleyball competition at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Lady Red Spikers, who finished runner-up last year, tightened their grip of the top spot they share with defending two-time champion Arellano University.
Nieza Viray continued with her hot scoring streak after putting up another double-digit production with 19 points built on 16 attacks and three aces. Viray also displayed great floor defense with eight digs for the Mendiola-based squad.
Cesca Racraquin added 13 points off 10 kills and three service winners while Sattriani Espiritu and Trisha Paras combined for 13 markers for the Lady Red Spikers, who punished the Lady Pirates with 42 kills and 10 aces.
LPU slid to 1-2 card.
No Lady Pirate scored in double figures with Mikaela Wanta scoring seven points while the veteran trio of Rocelyn Hongria and Bien Juanillo finishing with six each.
Meanwhile, the Pirates defeated the Red Spikers, 25-22, 25-23, 25-21, for their first win in three outings in men's play.
Sinmart Saporna and Kier Tibayan led the way with 12 points each for LPU, which tied their victim.
In the juniors division, the Red Cubs claimed their second straight win after clobbering the Junior Pirates, 26-24, 25-22, 30-28.
LPU tasted defeat for the first time in three games.
