NCAA Season 94 volleyball: Lady Bombers barge in win column

Mary May Ruiz led Jose Rizal University to its first win in the NCAA Season 94 women's volleyball competition.
Mary May Ruiz displayed an all-around effort to power Jose Rizal University to its first win at the expense of Letran, 25-23, 14-25, 25-15, 25-16, Tuesday in the NCAA Season 94 women’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Ruiz smashed 17 kills for 18 points as the Lady Bombers snapped a two-game skid to tie their victim at 1-2 win-loss slate together with University of Perpetual Help and Lyceum of the Philippines University. Ruiz also led JRU on floor defense with 20 digs and six excellent receptions.
Dolly Versoza also showed her all-around game with 13 points anchored on 11 attacks while playing superb floor defense with 25 digs for JRU. Sydney Niegos added 12 markers while Karen Montojo got eight for the Lady Bombers.
JRU got a scare in the fourth set after the Lady Knights chopped the Lady Bombers five-point lead to only one, 17-16. But JRU countered with a closing 8-0 blast to finish off Letran.
Chamberlaine Cunada had 14 points – all off attacks – while Miracle Mendoza and Rhoselle Urriza posted 12 and 10 markers, respectively, for the Lady Bombers.
