NCAA Season 94 volleyball: JRU survives upset scare, wins second straight

Jose Rizal University captured its second straight win after surviving a 5-set duel against Mapua University.
Jose Rizal University dodged Mapua University’s upset axe after rallying from a 1-2 match deficit for a 24-26, 25-20, 20-25, 25-16, 15-9, escape Monday in the NCAA Season 94 women’s volleyball competition at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Lady Bombers started out flat and committed costly errors before regaining their bearing to notch their second straight win.
JRU improved to 2-2 win-loss slate and handed the Lady Cardinals their fourth straight defeat. Mapua has yet to win a match since its last victory back in 2016.
Meanwhile, University of Perpetual Help beat Lyceum of the Philippines University, 17-25, 25-21, 25-17, 25-12, to improve to 2-2 slate.
Cindy Imbo fired all but one of her 16 point off attacks while adding 14 digs and nine excellent receptions for the the Lady Altas. Shyra Umandal added 14 point while Jowie Alber Versoza posted 12 markers for the Las Pinas-based squad.
The Lady Pirates dropped to 1-3 despite the 20-point effort of Mikaela Rafael and 13 markers by Rocelyn Sindayen.
