Randy Alcantara will now have a hand in Mapua’s Seniors and Juniors squads
It’s official – a new era has been ushered in Mapua University.
A month after the courtesy resignation of Atoy Co, the Cardinals officially have their new mentor in Randy Alcantara.
After leading Mapua High to its second championship in the last three years last November, the softspoken mentor said he had been offered the post for the school’s Seniors squad, but was yet to put his name on the dotted line.
On Thursday, however, coach Randy himself confirmed a report from spin.ph’s Reuben Terrado that he is now officially Mapua’s head coach.
With this, the 47-year-old said he has also informed University of Sto. Tomas that he will no longer be able to fulfill his role as assistant coach there. “Nag-usap na kami ni coach Aldin [Ayo] and maayos na naman lahat,” he said.
As shot-caller for the Cardinals, he reunites with former wards Warren Bonifacio, Noah Lugo, and Laurenz Victoria. Standing alongside him there will be assistants Lito Aguilar, Nani Enundulan, Yong Garcia, and Ian Racela.
Before his new post, Alcantara resurrected the Red Robins back into a powerhouse that has won two titles in the last three years and has made the Finals four times out of the last five.
Now, he will be tasked to oversee the development of both Mapua’s Seniors and Juniors teams.
Taking over for him as Red Robins mentor will be Garcia.
