Racraquin shows leadership in San Beda's narrow escape
Pinakagusto kong ipakita sa kanila ay 'yung composure na mayroon ako -- San Beda skipper Cesca Racraquin

Skipper Cesca Racraquin displayed her unquestionable leadership in San Beda University’s narrow escape over an upset-conscious Jose Rizal University Thursday in the NCAA Season 94 women’s volleyball competition at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Down, 9-11, in the closing stretch of the fifth frame, the third-year hitter took matters into her own hands to preserve the Lady Red Spikers’ unblemished record after five starts.

“Sa akin ang pinakagusto kong ipakita sa kanila ay yung composure na mayroon ako. Like hindi ako nara-rattle pagdating sa mga ganoon, hindi ako nagi-error,” said the Season 92 Rookie of the Year after San Beda’s 17-25, 25-13, 25-9, 21-25, 15-11, victory.

Racraquin came a point shy of duplicating her career-high after the Queen Lady Spiker finished with 25 points including three hits in Mendiola-based squad’s closing 6-0 blitz.

The Lady Red Spikers went up 9-6 in the deciding frame only to see the Lady Bombers retaliate with five unanswered points to go up, 11-9. Racraquin stopped the bleeding with a kill over two blockers followed by two more hits to spark San Beda’s run before another veteran in Sattriani Espiritu followed suit with three points including the game-clinching kill block over Dolly Versoza.

“Gusto ko ganoon din sila na parang kapag nakita nila ang leader nila na ganoon, susundan nila. So yun ang gusto kong gawing example sa kanila and siyempre gusto naming makuha ang panalo so kailangan yung composure talaga,” said Racraquin, who had 18 kills, six aces, a kill block and 22 in an all-around effort.

“Nag-work hard talaga kami sa last stretch ng game na yun. Talagang grabe ang tinrabaho namin doon so sobrang happy na nanalo kami doon,” she added.

The Lady Spikers will face College of St. Benilde on Monday before the league goes on a long holiday break.
