CSB shoots for a Finals seat; Perpetual wants an extension
Top seed College of St. Benilde clashes with University of Perpetual Help in the NCAA Season 94 women's volleyball competition Final Four.

University of Perpetual Help head coach Macky Carino will try to utilize his familiarity with the players of College of St. Benilde as the Lady Altas try to force a rubber match in the NCAA Season 94 women’s volleyball competition Final Four Tuesday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Facing a twice-to-beat Lady Blazers in their 4:00 p.m. duel, Carino devised a game plan based on his knowledge of the tendencies of most of the CSB players, which he handled two years ago.

“Kilala ko naman sila kung paano maglaro eh. Karamihan kasi doon sa kabila ay galing din sa akin,” said Carino, who steered CSB to its breakthrough title in Season 91 before transferring to Perpetual last year.

“‘Yung sistema rin nila kung paano maglaro alam ko. Medyo may adjustment sila today because of Coach Jerry (Yee’s) system. Actually may gameplan na ako against them,” added Carino, whose task this time is to bring the Las Pinas-based squad back in the Finals since winning it all in Season 89.

The game will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166, LIGA SkyCable Channel 86, LIGA HD SkyCable Channel 183 and via livestream.

The Lady Altas advanced in the Final Four after defeating Jose Rizal University in a four sets at the end of the elimination round last Thursday.

“Maganda ‘yung (galing sa panalo) na papasok kami sa semis mataas ang morale namin,” added Carino, who will pin his hopes on graduating players Bianca Tripoli, Cindy Imbo, Jhona Rosal, Shyrra Umandal and setter Necelle Gual.

But Perpetual will need to play flawlessly if they want to force a winner-take-all next week.

CSB finished the elimination round with eight straight wins to clinch the top seeding. The Lady Blazers also beat the Lady Altas in four sets in their first meeting.

Leading the charge for CSB are Rachel Anne Austero, Jan Daguil, Klarisa Abriam, Maritess Pablo and prized setter Jewel Lai.
