Veteran hitter Regine Arocha felt that the defending two-time champion Arellano University played without any sense of urgency in Game 1 of the NCAA Season 94 women’s volleyball Finals series against University of Perpetual Help.
Now facing a do-or-die situation in their three-peat bid, Arocha stressed the importance of having her teammates set their minds on the game and focus on their goal.
“Siguro kailangan muna pumasok sa isip namin pare-pareho, sa aming lahat na ito na e, championship na ‘to. Hindi na ‘to basta ano lang na laro, hindi na elimination, hindi to semifinals,” said Arocha.
The opposite hitter was the only Lady Chief in double figures with 17 points in Arellano U’s series opening loss, 25-21, 17-25, 21-25, 20-25, last Friday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
It was a shocking loss for the Lady Chiefs, who in the past two championship series drew first blood.
Arellano U will try to recover lost ground and force a series decider in Game 2 on Friday.
The match will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166, LIGA SkyCable Channel 86, LIGA HD SkyCable Channel 183 and via livestream.
“Championship na so kailangan ilabas na namin lahat, kailangan all-out na yung ilabas namin kasi hindi kami mananalo kung hindi kami nagtutulungan dapat talaga sa amin lahat nagco-contribute,” said Arocha.
Arellano U will more contributions from Necole Ebuen, Princess Bello, Carla Donato and Mikaela Juanich – who all went cold in Game 1 – to survive and live to fight another day.
Game 3, if needed, is on February 12.
