EAC, San Beda win back-to-back beach volleyball titles
San Beda University and Emilio Aguinaldo College retained their women's and men's beach volleyball titles, respectively.

San Beda University retained its women’s crown while Emilio Aguinaldo College ruled the men’s division for the second straight year Tuesday in the NCAA Season 94 beach volleyball competition at the Sands SM by the Bay.

Twins Nieza and Jiezela Viray dominated the University of Perpetual Help pair of Princess Estanislao and Dana Persa, 21-11, 21-15, to annex the Lady Red Spikers’ second title in a row.

Nieza Viray bagged the Most Valuable Player award.

San Beda swept the EAC Lady Generals tandem of Jayleene Lumbo and Glyka Medina, 21-10, 21-12, in the Final Four while the Lady Altas needed to hurdle the twice-to-beat advantage of Mapua’s Wellamae Ortega and Lorralee Barias to advance to the championship round.

Perpetual beat Mapua, 21-17, 21-19, in their first meeting before closing the series with a 21-15, 22-20, victory.

Meanwhile, MVP Joshua Mina and Ralph Pitogo led the Generals’ back-to-back romp with a close-shaved, 21-17, 16-21, 15-13, win over Perpetual’s Jay-jay Solamillo and Gilbert Balmores in the men’s Final.

The Generals disposed Lyceum of the Philippines University’s Juvic Colonia and Kian Moral, 21-17, 21-15, in the semis while the Altas beat College of St. Benilde’s Owen Bacani and Russel Garcia in the semis rubber match, 21-8, 21-13. CSB forced a Final Four decider after taking the extended first match, 21-19, 22-20.

In juniors play, Noel Kampton and Hero Austria of Perpetual captured the title at the expense of Letran’s John Paul Lorenzo and Christian Dela Cruz, 19-21, 21-12, 15-7.

The Junior Altas won their third title overall and first since 2011.
