Louie Gonzalez returns to the NCAA as JRU’s new head coach
Jose Rizal University will turn to a one-time NCAA and one-time UAAP champion coach as it sets out for a brand new flight.
The Heavy Bombers have named Louie Gonzalez as their new head coach on Saturday.
This puts an end to a four-month coaching search that began right after longtime mentor Vergel Meneses decided to step down early in the year.
Coach Louie has big shoes to fill in Kalentong as Coach Vergel compiled an overall 84-76 win-loss record for his alma mater.
The erstwhile longest-tenured NCAA head coach also brought JRU to the playoffs five times out of nine seasons.
The good news for the school's brand new shot-caller is he has a building block for this rebuild in NCAA 94 Juniors Most Improved Player John Amores who has all the tools to shine bright as a star.
A year ago, coach Louie was the tactician for De La Salle University and went 8-6, just missing out on the Final Four.
Before that, he served as lead assistant for Aldin Ayo as he led Colegio de San Juan de Letran and then the Green Archers to championships in the NCAA and UAAP, respectively.
