NCAA: 'Magical' Marcelinos out to prove LPU's here to stay

Marcelino twins Jaycee and Jayvee remained to be a thorn on the side of Letran
Jaycee and Jayvee Marcelino just wouldn't let Lyceum of the Philippines University bow down to fellow contender Colegio de San Juan de Letran, Sunday at MOA Arena.
Combining for 16 points in the last nine minutes, the chaos-creating twins propelled the Pirates past the Knights in a thriller.
For them, the show they put on was for two people who had frontrow seats. "Inspired kami kasi nandun sila e," Jaycee told reporters after his 24-point, six-rebound, five-assist, and three-steal performance.
The "sila" he was referring to were former MVP CJ Perez and skipper MJ Ayaay who played their last games in red and grey a season ago and who were in attendance for LPU's season opener.
Of course, the now-pros' presence was nothing but a big boost. "Siyempre, masaya kaming suportado pa rin nila kami. Kahit wala na sila sa team, yung full support nila, nandun pa rin talaga," Jayvee, who had 18 points six rebounds, and two assists, said.
More than Perez and Ayaay's presence, however, it was actually their absence - on the team itself, at least - that inspired not just the Marcelinos, but all of the Pirates. "Ang big challenge talaga for me, sinabi sa amin ni coach na hindi team ni CJ at Ay yung LPU. Parang na-challenge kami sa sinasabi na porket wala na si CJ at Ay, parang 'di na namin kaya manalo," Jayvee shared.
He then continued, "Ni-prove lang namin as a team kaming naglalaro ngayon."
Indeed, they did just that and sent a statement to the rest of the league that LPU is here to stay.
For that, head coach Topex Robinson is nothing but glad. "How I wish they have five more years for us at LPU because the energy they bring to the team is really something super, super magical to us," he said.
He then continued, "That's really a sight to behold."
