Ilagan-Bulanadi as Westbrook-Harden? Baste sees it that way
The awesome twosome of RK Ilagan and Allyn Bulanadi are at the forefront of San Sebastian’s championship hopes

In the many, many preseason leagues it had participated in, San Sebastian College-Recoletos had been seen as a squad defined by RK Ilagan and Allyn Bulanadi.

Now two games into the NCAA 95 Men’s Basketball Tournament, that has still been proven correct as it has been that awesome twosome that has led the Golden Stags to back-to-back wins.

Ilagan and Bulanadi got together in Baste’s strong start that eventually ended as a 24-point win against Mapua University, Tuesday at Filoil Flying V Centre.

This, just a week after it was also the two of them that fueled their rush right through Jose Rizal University.

Without a doubt, they have wasted no time in establishing themselves as the most powerful 1-2 punch in all of the league - through two games, at the very least.

So much so that their partnership has been compared to that of James Harden and Russell Westbrook - the Houston Rockets’ new dynamic duo who were also former teammates with the Oklahoma City Thunder. “If they’re always healthy, RK and Allyn are Westbrook and Harden,” head coach Egay Macaraya said.

Even more interesting is that both are coming off preseason injuries - Ilagan a troublesome knee and Bulanadi a dislocated shoulder.

Clearly, though, both have already fully recovered.

For coach Egay, there would be no stopping San Sebastian’s awesome twosome if they keep sharing both the ball and the limelight. “Ang pakiusap ko lang naman sa kanila, please share the ball and you can do your thing anytime you want,” he said.

The good news for the Golden Stags is that the Ilagan-Bulanadi pairing is nothing but determined to stick to their strengths. As the latter put it, “Siyempre, kailangan lang namin gampanan role namin. Kung pwede, yung laro namin kanina, iaangat pa namin para makuha namin yung championship.”
