San Beda High School is off to its best start in recent history, registering its third consecutive victory in the NCAA 95 Juniors Basketball Tournament at the expense of home team Emilio Aguinaldo College, 94-70, Thursday inside the latter's Sports and Cultural Center in Manila.
Rhayyan Amsali impressed for the second straight game with an all-around performance of 18 points, six rebounds, five assists, and three steals.
He definitely wasn't alone, however, as Wilmar Oftana chipped in 14 points and six rebounds off the bench while Yukien Andrada chimed in 12 markers and five boards.
Veteran forwards Troy Valencia and Justine Sanchez then contributed a combined 17 points and 21 rebounds as the Red Cubs dominated the middle periods, 54-34.
Despite the 3-0 start to the season, however, head coach Manu Inigo sees much room for improvement for his wards. "'Di pa rin kami satisfied kasi medyo marami pa rin kaming lapses na 'di na dapat nangyayari," he said, talking about the 26 times they turned the ball over.
Nonetheless, the powerhouse program is back standing where it had long been used to - solo first. "Ang tina-try naman namin, mabalik yung dominance namin. So sana, hopefully, mangyari yun," coach Manu said.
For the Brigadiers, Adrian Balowa and Joshua Dandoy topped the scoring column with 14 points apiece. They remain winless after three games.
