Lyceum of the Philippines is still smooth sailing in the NCAA 95 Juniors Basketball Tournament after handing Mapua High School the worst loss a defending champion has had in recent history.

The Jr. Pirates ran roughshod on the still Jonnel Policarpio-less Red Robins to the tune of a 35-point blowout, 101-66, Friday at Filoil Flying V Centre.

John Barba showed he is back at full strength following a knee injury with a 27-point, 10-rebound double-double while Jae Omandac also made an impact off the bench with 24 markers, five boards, and three assists. "Yung mga bata, ine-emphasize naming kailangang ibigay na nila dun pa lang yung best nila para madala sa game namin. Yun naman naging resulta ngayon," head coach JC Docto said post-game.

Top gun Mac Guadana didn't even have to do much with only, for his standards, nine points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals as LPU scored no less than 21 points in each and every quarter.

They also made a living by turning defense into offense, forcing 23 errors from their opponents and quickly converting them into 30 big points.

With the 35-point hammering of defending champion Mapua, the upstart Jr. Pirates sent a statement to the rest of the league that they are a force to reckon with. "Sa amin naman, kahit sino kalaban, champion man o walang panalo, gagawin namn best namin," coach JC said.

They now stand alongside perennial powerhouse San Beda High School atop the leaderboard with a 3-0 record.

On the other hand, the Red Robins dropped to 0-3 in their title defense. Without Policarpio, still dealing with personal problems, for the third game in a row, they had to lean on rookie Megan Galang once more and he had 11 points to front their effort.

Meanwhile, Arellano High School got over .500 after grounding Jose Rizal University High School, 70-68.

The Braves now stand at 2-1 while the Light Bombers fell to 2-2.
