Two years ago, Renzo Navarro and Jayson David were part of a resurgent San Sebastian College-Recoletos that returned to the Final Four.

Now in the NCAA 95 Men's Basketball Tournament, Navarro and David are part of a rejiggered Lyceum of the Philippines University crew on a quest for continued contention.

And on Tuesday, Navarro and David proved their worth to the Pirates - up against their former teammates with the Golden Stags, no less.

The two connived for the bookending threes to the 13-0 run inside the last seven minutes that erased a five-point deficit and erected the edge the their side would keep for the rest of the game.

In the end, Navarro turned in his best game in maroon and grey with 11 points while David contributed 10 markers, six rebounds, and three assists of his own.

The two follow in the footsteps of the likes of ex-MVP CJ Perez, Nino Ibanez, Jeff Santos, and Rhanzelle Yong who once donned the red and yellow before rising and shining bright for the Pirates.

Head coach Topex Robinson, himself a Sebastino, made it a point to say, however, that the much-anticipated match-up was never about them against their former team. "We were not out there to play for ourselves. Yes, they played for San Sebastian two years ago and they played their first game against their former team, but it's not Jayson and Renzo against San Sebastian," he said.

He then continued, "It's about LPU vs San Sebastian. 'Di nila laban yun. They're just here to support each other."

Indeed, the transferees could only agree with their mentor. As Navarro put it, "Since high school kasi, dun ako naglaro e tapos ngayon, kalaban ko sila. Siyempre, laging may extra motivation for me, pero enjoy lang talaga kasi pag kalaro mo mga kapatid mo, mga teammate mo."

He then continued, "'Di naman ako naglaro para may mapatunayan. Gusto ko lang mag-enjoy kasi parang nasa practice lang kami sa laro kanina."

David shares the same sentiment. "In-enjoy ko lang yung game kasi parang nasa scrimmage lang ako nung sa Baste e. Parang dati lang," he said.

In the end, Coach Topex is only grateful to have fellow Sebastinos with him in Intramuros. "Renzo's been struggling a bit, but today, he showed his character. We're just so bless to have Renzo here and that also goes with Jayson," he said.
