Guadana too good as Jr. Pirates top Jr. Altas in battle between NCAA 95 upstarts

Mac Guadana showed LPU the way back inside the win column in NCAA 95

Mac Guadana had all the answers as Lyceum of the Philippines University frustrated home team University of Perpetual Help, 93-81, in the latter’s school gym in Las Pinas on Thursday for a much-welcome bounce back win in the NCAA 95 Juniors Basketball Tournament.
The graduating guard was red-hot all game long, but fired his biggest shots early in the final frame, accounting for seven points in the 20-5 blast that turned a five-point edge into an 83-63 advantage for his side inside the last five minutes. "Yung bata, lagi naman niyang binibigay yung best niya sa amin," head coach JC Docto said post-game, nothing but proud of his prized ward.
Not long after, the Jr. Pirates were cruising with a double-digit lead that ballooned to as much as 21 after John Barba joined in on the fun.
Guadana wound up with 33 points in 12-of-21 shooting on top of six rebounds and five assists.
He did all of that in just 28 minutes of play - all while also taking care of the ball, with just two turnovers.
He was backstopped, as always, by Barba who had 11 points, six rebounds, and three assists as well as Jae Omandac who posted a 15-marker, 12-board double-double.
Now back on track at 4-2, LPU finds itself well within the top four. "Gutom yung mga bata kasi galing kaming dalawang talo. Marami kaming natutunan dun so sana, tuloy-tuloy na kami," coach JC said.
On the other hand, the Jr. Pirates for the fourth time in the last five games following back-to-back wins to start the season. Yuki Kawamura topped the scoring column for them with 22 points while Emman Galman chipped in 20 markers, 10 rebounds, and two assists.
