San Beda High School powered through the absence of main man Rhayyan Amsali before putting away archrival Colegio de San Juan de Letran, 83-79, in the special Saturday showcase in the NCAA 95 Juniors Basketball Tournament at Cuneta Astrodome.

The power pairing of Justine Sanchez and Yukien Andrada did the heavy lifting for Red Cubs as Amsali was serving his one-game suspension. "Yung roles lang naman nila sa team is to work hard and play hard every game. Hard work lang talaga nila yan," head coach Manu Inigo said post-game.

Sanchez wound up with 27 points and 10 rebounds while Andrada also added 20 markers and eight boards in the red and white's mighty rebound to a 5-1 standing.

With the Squires rallying and even registering a 77-75 edge inside the last five minutes, it was also Sanchez who took over, dropping five points in their 9-2 finishing kick.

The two teams were still all even at 79-all in the last two minutes until Sanchez hit a booming triple that proved to be the shot that made sure San Beda bounced back after a tough loss to College of St. Benilde-La Salle Green Hills a week ago. "Sobrang thankful na nakuha namin yung panalo despite yung wala si Rhayyan," coach Manu said.

For Letran, Mark Omega starred with a 17-point, 13-rebound double-double while Joshua Ramirez and Shawn Umali also both did it all as the former finished with 14 points, nine rebounds, and three assists and the latter ended with nine markers, eight boards, and seven dimes.

Going scoreless in the last two minutes, however, they fall to 3-5 in the season.

Meanwhile, Arellano University sent defending champion Mapua University crashing back to earth with a well-earned 63-56 win.

Adrian Rellama had 12 points and four rebounds to show the Braves the way into joint first at 5-1.

On the other hand, the Red Robins get grounded anew now at 1-5. Anthony Fransman topped the scoring column for them with an 18-point, 13-rebound double-double.
