San Sebastian College-Recoletos, at one point, was up by 17 points and was at full strength in its matchup opposite Colegio de San Juan de Letran, Tuesday at Filoil Flying V Centre.
And then, the Golden Stags saw six players foul out one by one and saw the Knights battle back to force overtime.
Even worse? Baste was already trying to overcome the absence of head coach Egay Macaraya who was serving a one-game suspension and then had to overcome the loss of top gun RK Ilagan due to fouls.
And so, with the two teams going at it in the extra period, there was nowhere for the red and gold to go but its other big-time player. "Sabi namin, dun na tayo sa beterano, stick tayo sa game plan. Buti, nag-step up naman sila Allyn at Ken," acting head coach Melo Banua said post-game.
Indeed, Allyn Bulanadi only heeded the call and scored 10 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter and extra period.
"Si RK, leader namin so pag nawala siya sa court, walang ibang bubuno ng role niya kundi ako lang," he told reporters post-game. "Sabi lang ni coach, pwede akong maging leader sa court so kinakausap ko (teammates) ko every possession na wag mag-give up at ipakita ang character namin."
In the end, Bulanadi was only backstopped by sophomore wing Ken Villapando who delivered half of his six points in the last minute of overtime.
And in the end, the two allowed San Sebastian to buck all odds and score its biggest win thus far in the season.
