Kobe Palencia delivered the goods all throughout and ultimately delivered a much welcome bounce back win in the NCAA 95 Juniors Basketball Tournament to College of St. Benilde-La Salle Green Hills at the expense of Jose Rizal University High School, 78-62, Friday at Filoil Flying V Centre.

Palencia burned down the nets for 27 points while also collecting five rebounds, three assists, and three steals and fronting the offensive that seized a mighty rebound for the Jr. Blazers who now stand solo third at 6-3. “Of course, maraming teams ang naghahabol sa standings so as much as possible, gusto namin makakuha ng separation,” a more than satisfied head coach Karl Santos said.

Nearly two weeks after a sorry loss to surging Lyceum of the Philippines University, the second-year playmaker made sure the boys from Mandaluyong were barging back in the win column, joining forces with Jiam Quiambao to turn a tight tiff, 21-20, after the opening salvo into a 44-35 game in their favor at halftime.

Both the lead and the momentum would remain with CSB-LSGH until the final buzzer.

Despite getting back on track, the Jr. Blazers still have only won half of its last four games - and this bounce back win is much welcome as they head to the next round. “Talagang ginawa kong motivation for them to win today because we know it’s gonna be harder in the second round,” coach Karl said.

On the other hand, the downward spiral continues for the Light Bombers who have now dropped three games in a row following a promising 4-2 start to the season. Jonahan Medina paced them with 11 points and eight rebounds.

Meanwhile, San Sebastian College-Recoletos dodged an upset ax at the hands of Emilio Aguinaldo College, 86-81, in overtime.

Louise Concha topped the scoring column with 16 points, but it was Milo Janao who came alive in overtime to finally put a stop to the Staglets' four-game skid.

Janao dropped five of his 14 points in the extra period to shoot Baste to a 3-5 standing.

For the Brigadiers who wind up the first round at 1-8, Ron Encila showed the way with 16 points as main men Adrian Balowa and JR Ilustrisimo were misfiring, merging for 26 points in 9-of-42 shooting from the field.
