San Sebastian College-Recoletos has forced its way into a four-team logjam at the second spot in the NCAA 95 Men’s Basketball Tournament after fending off Arellano University, 85-79, Friday at Cuneta Astrodome.

After a roller-coaster ride early on at 2-3, the Golden Stags have rung off four wins in a row to stand on even ground with College of St. Benilde, Colegio de San Juan de Letran, and Lyceum of the Philippines University for the position right behind league-leader San Beda University. "The key now is everybody is playing together. Everybody contributes knowing their roles," head coach Egay Macaraya said post-game.

This latest win was courtesy of JM Calma who willed in the inside basket with 33 ticks to go that quelled the Chiefs’ late rally.

It didn’t hurt Baste either that lady luck looked like she was smiling on them as just when Arellano was making its run and was only down by one inside the last two minutes, both short stabs from Kent Salado and Justin Arana rolled out.

Then after Calma’s inside basket, Arana only made 1-of-2 from the line and even though the latter got his own miss, their possession still ended with Gelo Sablan muffing on a corner jumper.

RK Ilagan and Alex Desoyo then sealed the deal for San Sebastian by making good on all four of their free throws.

In the end, Calma posted a 17-point, 10-rebound double-double before fouling out late while Allyn Bulanadi topped the scoring column with 22 markers on top of seven boards and two steals.

Ilagan then wound up with 12 points and four assists while fan favorite Amman Cosari also provided a boost off the bench with five markers and five rebounds. "May bonus pa ako ngayon na Ammar Cosari. He was the difference kay Arana," coach Egay said of his backup big man who held his own against the most recent Player of the Week of the Chooks-to-Go Collegiate Press Corps.

On the other hand, Arellano was paced by Kent Salado and Arana with the former finishing with 13 points, six assists, and four rebounds and the latter ending with 13 markers, 10 boards, and three blocks.
