At long last, here comes San Sebastian College-Recoletos - the championship contender just about everybody expected in the NCAA 95 Men’s Basketball Tournament.
The Golden Stags rampaged to their fifth win in a row after running roughshod on undermanned College of St. Benilde, 83-67, Thursday at Filoil Flying V Centre.
Allyn Bulanadi waxed hot with a career-high 32 points on top of four rebounds, three steals, and two assists. Going 5-of-12 from beyond the arc, he shot Baste to a share of the second spot at 7-3.
The graduating wing was at the forefront of the 22-5 rush that increased an eight-point edge, 56-48, late in the third quarter to a 25-point advantage, 78-53, in the final frame.
Bulanadi was flanked, as always, by RK Ilagan and Alvin Capobres with the former finishing with 13 points, five rebounds, and four assists and the latter ending with 12 markers and six boards.
At the same time, San Sebastian piled onto the woes of the suddenly struggling Blazers who have now lost four of their last five following a school record 5-0 start to the season.
Yankie Haruna was the lone bright spot for them in this one with 16 points and nine rebounds as versatile forward Edward Dixon joined injured court general Jimboy Pasturan on the sidelines.
