Jose Rizal University barged back into the win column of the NCAA 95 Men's Basketball Tournament after blasting Emilio Aguinaldo College, 69-63, Friday at Filoil Flying V Centre.
The Heavy Bombers had been on a three-game losing slide before this win that improves their standing to 4-7. "Thankful kami na at least, nanalo na kami ulit," head coach Louie Gonzalez said in his first post-win interview in over a month.
Agem Miranda and Marwin Dionisio made sure they got back on track in this one, joining forces for a 7-2 run that increased a four-point edge, 56-60, inside the last five minutes to a 67-58 lead with 24 ticks to go.
Still, CJ Cadua and Jethro Mendoza kept coming and pulled the Generals within 63-67, but Dionisio sealed the deal once and for all with a breakaway layup.
In the end, Miranda had 16 points in 50 percent shooting while Dionisio posted a 13-marker, 16-rebound double-double. "Bad game ako last game kaya sinabi ko talaga sa kanya at sa sarili ko na babawi ako," the latter said.
Ry Dela Rosa also added 11 points, three rebounds, and two assists while JL Delos Santos and John Amores combined for 16 markers, 12 boards, and six dimes.
For EAC, JP Maguliano and Mendoza showed the way as the former finished with 16 points and eight rebounds and the latter ended with 15 markers and three boards. Missing a finishing kick, however, they suffered their ninth setback in a row and 10th overall in 11 games.
