San Beda 12-1
San Sebastian 6-6
Slowly but surely, San Beda High School is getting farther and farther ahead of the thick of things in the playoff race in the NCAA 95 Juniors Basketball Tournament.
Behind Rhayyan Amsali's all-around effort as well as Yukien Andrada's interior dominance, the Red Cubs had no problems whatsoever in an 88-79 wire-to-wire win against San Sebastian College-Recoletos, Tuesday at Filoil Flying V Centre.
Amsali stuffed the stat sheet with 21 points, nine rebounds, six assists, and three steals while Andrada pounded in his own 18-marker, 10-board double-double in their eighth win in a row and 12th overall in 13 games.
The two forwards took control from the get-go, merging for 14 points in the opening salvo as San Beda wasted no time taking the fight out of their opponents.
Up by 12, 28-16, after one, they would never look back all the way to strengthening their stranglehold on the top spot.
At the same time, the Red Cubs closed in on claiming the first playoff berth all while being away from the cluster of eight teams vying for the other three spots in the Final Four.
The Staglets saw their four-game win run come to a close even after a strong 24-point showing by rookie Dylan Darbin. At 6-6, they find themselves in the tie for the fourth spot with Arellano High School and Jose Rizal University High School.
