James Canlas was red-hot, AC Soberano went online, and San Beda University wielded all of its weapons to blast through playoff contender San Sebastian College-Recoletos, 91-73, and bag its 13th win in as many games in the NCAA 95 Men's Basketball Tournament.

Canlas couldn't miss, almost, with 20 points - in 7-of-10 shooting from the field and 2-of-2 shooting from the line - on top of five assists and four rebounds while Soberano doubled his season average in scoring in just the first half, with 10 of his 14 markers coming there.

Behind those two, the Red Lions dropped 30 points as an opening salvo and then built up a lead of as much as 18, 35-17, in the second quarter. "I salute the players for this. They showed what they are capable of," head coach Boyet Fernandez said post-game as they roared from start to finish to remain unscathed in their title defense.

The Golden Stags kept coming, however, and got to within nine points until Evan Nelle came alive, scoring all but two of his 11 points and dishing three of his seven assists in the last nine minutes to keep San Beda on top.

Nelle also hauled in five rebounds while Donald Tankoua and Calvin Oftana delivered big-time contributions, as always, with the former finishing with 18 points and seven boards and the latter ending with 15 markers, eight rebounds, and four assists.

In all, the Red Lions' starters accounted for 74 points, dominating their counterparts who only mustered 57. "Calvin was the best player for me, but James, Evan, Donald, and Clint [Doliguez] also played well," coach Boyet said.

With their latest win, they are knocking on the door of a 14th straight playoff appearance.

On the other hand, Baste suffered a second straight setback to drop down to 7-5. RK Ilagan topped the scoring column for them with 16 points, three assists, and three rebounds while Allyn Bulanadi also added 14 markers, five dimes, and two boards.
