LPU gets back at EAC, gets farther from Letran in chase for NCAA 95 two-seed

Lyceum of the Philippines University avenged its avenged one of its sorry losses in the NCAA 95 Men’s Basketball Tournament, averting another disaster against Emilio Aguinaldo College, 83-71, Friday at Filoil Flying V Centre.
Jaycee Marcelino yet again proved clutch in the final frame and fronted the Pirates' sail to a 12-3 standing.
Marcelino poured in 13 of his 23 points in the last seven minutes, with six straight spearheading an 18-9 surge in the next six minutes that widened a three-point gap, 65-62, into an 83-71 advantage in their favor.
The veteran guard did all that efficiently, going 10-of-11 from the field and then 2-of-2 from the line.
Mike Nzeusseu also posted a 14-point, 16-rebound double-double as Reymar Caduyac chipped in 10 markers, six assists, four boards, and three steals of his own in their revenge for the 82-84 loss the Generals handed them back in July.
LPU remains in solo second and registered an even greater separation from third-running and 10-6 Colegio de San Juan de Letran.
For also-ran EAC, Marwin Taywan topped the scoring column with 16 points while Jethro Mendoza also added 14 markers. Unable to repeat their feat in the first round, they fell to 3-12.
