Junior Pirates remain on the right track in semis bid

Lyceum of the Philippines University beat Jose Rizal University, 70-69, on Friday to fuel its drive for a semifinals seat in the NCAA Season 95 juniors basketball competition at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.     

John Barba led the Junior Pirates with 19 points, Gyle Montano had 17 while McClaude Guadania posted 14 points as LPU improved to 11-6 win-loss slate at solo second spot behind semis-bound San Beda University (16-1).

The Light Bombers fell to 8-8 mark.

Condrad Famaranco registered 15 points, Jan Sy got 13 while Gholam Garcia and Mark Joson had 10 markers each for JRU.

Meanwhile, Yuki Kawamura waxed-hot in the first quarter to power University of Perpetual Help to an 81-77 win over Letran.

Kawamura accounted for half of the Junior Altas’ 28 points in the opening period that gave Perpetual enough cushion to keep the Squires at bay for a 6-10 slate.

Kawamura scored 20 points to lead the Junior Altas while Angelo Gelsano and John Escalante had 16 and 15 markers, respectively. Ed Galoy added 11 points for Perpetual.

Letran dropped to 7-10 card.

Andrei Romenez scored 15, Charles Saure had 12 while Joshua Ramirez and Shawn Umali posted 11 markers each in a lost cause for the Squires.
