San Beda University made quick work of new-age rival Lyceum of the Philippines University, 85-62, Thursday at Filoil Flying V Centre before making its way straight to the Finals of the NCAA 95 Men's Basketball Tournament.

The Red Lions had no problems whatsoever against the Pirate crew that they had met in the last two Finals, imposing their will en route to a school-best 18-0 record at the end of the elimination round. "This has a little bit of fulfillment on my part. The goal is to just enjoy this tonight before looking forward to the Finals," head coach Boyet Fernandez said.

With a clean sweep of the elims, they automatically advance into the Finals where they continue their quest for a four-peat.

As always, the defending champions' first five did the heavy lifting with Donald Tankoua turning in a season-best 26 points and eight rebounds while Calvin Oftana posted his own 18-marker, 10-board double-double.

"Bandana Bros." James Canlas and Evan Nelle were also there with the former finishing with 17 points, seven rebounds, and three assists and the latter ending with just four markers, but 10 dimes and nine boards.

In all, San Beda's starters dominated their counterparts, 53-29.

With that, they completed a clean sweep of the elims, forcing a stepladder playoffs for the teams below them. "Our job is not yet done. Yes, we made it to the Finals, but we may face LPU or Letran or Baste or even Mapua there," coach Boyet said.

LPU remains the second-seed, but will no longer have a twice-to-beat advantage while Colegio de San Juan de Letran also stays as the third-seed.

Meanwhile, the fourth-seed is yet to be determined depending on the results of the last assignments of San Sebastian College-Recoletos and Mapua University on Friday.

Jaycee Marcelino paced the Pirates with 17 points on top of four rebounds and two steals. Unable to keep up with their fierce foes, though, they stumble to a 13-5 record to end the elims.

They will now await whoever claims the fourth-seed between the Golden Stags and the Cardinals and then whoever wins out from there up against the Knights.
