Calvin Oftana and James Canlas came up clutch as San Beda University edged out Colegio de San Juan de Letran in Game 2 of the NCAA 95 Men's Basketball Finals.
Oftana hit the go-ahead three-point play while Canlas hit the insurance free throws that sent the Red Lions to a winner-take-all match with their archrival Knights.
It also didn't hurt the three-time defending champions that Fran Yu, the player behind the wheel of Letran's rally, was on the bench for the last four minutes due to cramps.
"Fran Yu, wow. We're just lucky he got cramps," San Beda head coach Boyet Fernandez said post-game. "That's why we got our momentum and got back into the game. I salute that guy."
Indeed, with Yu on the bench, the red and white went on a 13-4 run to close the contest. "Lucky lang kami nawala yung Fran Yu kaya parang dun kami lumamang," Calvin Oftana said.
Without a doubt, the Knights missed their playoff "MVP" who has been averaging 17 points, 5.6 assists, and four rebounds in the last three games. "Siyempre, si Fran, maganda yung linaro ngayon e. Kung andun si Fran, siyempre, ibang storya," team captain Jerrick Balanza said.
