Calvin Oftana was in tears as San Beda University got dethroned in the NCAA 95 Men's Basketball Tournament.
Even with his parents beside him and consoling him, the Season MVP was inconsolable as the Red Lions succumbed to archrival Colegio de San Juan de Letran in a competitive championship round.
For Oftana, there was no explanation for Game 3 other than it wasn't meant to be for San Beda. "Na-short kami. Letran played well. Nandun yung effort nila," he shared.
He then continued, "Nandun din naman yung effort namin, pero kapos lang talaga. It's really for Letran talaga."
Make no mistake, however, the Red Lions have no regrets whatsoever in their failed bid for a perfect season or their failed bid for yet another four-peat. As the all-around forward put it, "It's a learning lesson para sa amin. We did well and walang sisihan."
He then continued, "Coach Boyet [Fernandez] prepared us well."
The good news is that Oftana as well as "Bandana Bros." James Canlas and Evan Nelle will all be back for more next season.
And there, the wounded Red Lions will be nothing but hungry."
