Rey Nambatac was there when Jerrick Balanza played his first year in the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament.
Then, the two were key cogs in Colegio de San Juan de Letran's Cinderella run to the championship.
Four years later, Nambatac was yet again there as Balanza played the last game of his collegiate career.
The two were wearing the same colors once more, this time for Team Saints as they waged war with Team Heroes in the revamped All-Star Game, Tuesday at MOA Arena.
And there, the current King Knight showed his senior just how far he has come - with 14 points, four rebounds, and two assists in their 113-111 come-from-behind win.
Balanza also came up clutch, converting 3-of-4 charities in the final minute to complete their comeback from an 82-100 deficit at the 7:23 mark of the final frame.
Because of that, Nambatac was left impressed. "Para sa akin, PBA-ready na talaga si Jerrick. Kailangan lang niya i-continue yung ginagawa niya ngayon," he said.
Still, the Rain or Shine rising star had advice for his former teammate. "Pagdating sa PBA, more competitive pa kailangan. As much as possibble, dapat marunong ka i-outsmart mga kalaban mo," he shared.
He then continued, "Yun lang. Mga konting adjustments lang para sa akin kasi overall naman, nandun na siya e."
