The Marcelinos will continue making Lyceum of the Philippines University proud - only this time, they will be doing it on a bigger stage and under brighter lights.
Jaycee and Jayvee have thrown their names into the hat of the 2019 PBA Draft in December.
In doing so, the twins are forgoing their fourth and final year as Pirates. “Para sa pamilya, yun lang naman po reason namin para magpa-draft kasi gusto na po namin tulungan pamilya namin,” Jaycee said.
Still, they are doing this for the maroon and grey, still. As Jaycee put it, “Gusto ko kahit wala na kami sa LPU, maging proud pa din sila sa amin.”
Jayvee shared the same sentiment. “Kung ‘di dahil sa LPU at kay coach Topex [Robinson], walang Marcelino twins. Kung saan man kami makarating magkambal, ipagmamalaki namin na Lyceans kami,” he said.
The Marcelinos are taking full advantage of a third year in a row where they were key cogs in LPU's contention.
In the recently concluded season, two-way guard Jaycee, a lock for the first round, averaged 18.6 points in 53.2 percent shooting on top of 5.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.4 steals while energizer Jayvee, who could also go as high as Round 1, normed 7.6 markers in 46.2 percent shooting to go along with 4.1 boards, 2.9 dimes, and 1.2 pilfers.
Without a doubt, this is a golden opportunity for them to cap off a remarkable rise that has seen them go from Olongapo to San Marcelino before finally finding their place in Intramuros.
At the same time, their earlier than expected exit forces the Pirates to now undergo some sort of rebuilding as they will no longer have the Marcelinos as well as Cameroonian powerhouse Mike Nzeusseu.
The good news for them is that NCAA Jrs. MVP John Barba has already committed to stay in maroon and grey.
