Rookies Gayle Pascual and Mycah Go announced their entry in the NCAA Season 95 women’s volleyball with inspired performances in College of St. Benilde’s, 25-17, 14-25, 25-17, 25-20, win over University of Perpetual Help on Friday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan City.
Pascual, a transferee from University of Sto. Tomas, anchored the Lady Blazers’ offense with 15 points with all but one coming off attacks while Go, a product of Hope Christian School, displayed an all-around game with eight points, 15 digs and seven excellent receptions.
Jade Gentapa added 12 markers, Diane Ventura had nine while alternate setter Cloanne Mondonedo tallied 13 excellent receptions for CSB, which is looking to get back on the throne since winning it all in 2016.
CSB head coach Jerry Yee started his newcomers in all four sets while limiting the minutes of his veterans Klarisa Abriam, who is nursing an ankle injury, setter Jewel Lai while Marites Pablo rode the bench all game long.
His rotation worked wonders in the first frame before crumbling in the second.
“Siguro po kasi kami po ang naglaro sa first two sets na mga rookies so parang napi-feel pa namin ang pressure,” said Go. “Sa first set yun nga nakuha namin tapos nung second set siguro kasalanan namin kasi nag-relax kami.”
The Lady Blazers opened a 7-1 lead in the third to control the frame. CSB then opened a 17-12 lead in the fourth and held on late as Perpetual tried to fight back.
Costly errors by the Season 94 runner-up Lady Altas, including a wrong server violation that put CSB at match point, did them in in the end.
Jhona Rosal finished with 14 points while Bianca Tripoli and Dana Persa had 10 markers each for Perpetual.
