NCAA Season 95: Lady Chiefs win second straight

Defending three-time champion Arellano University cruised past Mapua University, 25-13, 25-20, 25-12, on Thursday to claim the early lead in the NCAA Season 95 women’s volleyball competition at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Regine Arocha played another inspired game to finish with 19 points and seven excellent receptions to tow the Lady Chiefs to their second win in as many games.
Carla Donato and Princess Bello added seven points each for Arellano U, which pounded 17 spikes. The Lady Chiefs had 59 digs and 21 excellent receptions and played a better game compared to Arellano’s debut win over Lyceum of the Philippines University.
“Ang performance ng team, kumpara noong first game, medyo mas maganda ngayon kasi kumbaga naumpisahan namin ng tama,” said Arellano U coach Obet Javier.
Javier had the luxury of fielding his second stringers in the third set as the Lady Chiefs jumped to a commanding double-digit lead.
Jonina Fernandez was the only Lady Cardinal in double figures with 10 points while Angeline Mangundayao had seven markers.
Meanwhile, the Chiefs also copped its second straight win with a 26-24, 25-19, 22-25, 25-23, decision over the Cardinals.
Kim Tan led Arellano U with 17 points while skipper Christian Segovia and Christian Dela Paz got 13 and 12 markers each for Mapua.
