NCAA Season 95: Lady Cardinals down Lady Generals for first win

Mapua University came back from a set down to beat Emilio Aguinaldo College, 21-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-22, for its first win in the NCAA Season 95 women’s volleyball competition at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan on Monday.
The Lady Cardinals weathered the late fourth set rally of the Lady Generals for a 1-1 win-loss record in a four-way tie with Letran, University of Perpetual Help and Jose Rizal University.
Lorraine Barias led the way for Mapua with 20 points with all but one coming off spikes and added 28 digs for an all-around performance. Angeline Magundayao had 10 markers while Jonina Fernandez and Princess Barbiera scored nine points each for the Lady Cardinals’ back-to-back elims head-to-head victory over EAC.
Mapua, which gave away 36 point on errors, survived the Lady Generals' last push in the fourth set when EAC cut a 23-19 deficit to 21-23. Barias halted the Lady Generals’ rally with a hit.
The Lady Generals saved a match point but Barias finished off EAC with a hit to end the 61-minute duel.
Krizzia Reyes posted 19 points – all from kills – while Cathrine Almazan got 11 markers but their efforts went into naught as the Lady Generals absorbed their second straight defeat in as many outings and 12th overall since Season 93.
Meanwhile, the Generals won their second straight in as many games with a 21-25, 25-16, 25-20, 25-21, victory over the Cardinals.
Danrich Melad had 20 points while Joshua Mina and Aeron Daduya posted 18 and 17 markers, respectively, for EAC, which tied three-peat-seeking University of Perpetual Help and Arellano University.
Mapua slid to 0-2 card tied with San Sebastian College and Lyceum of the Philippines University.
