Veteran hitter Cesca Racraquin once again starred for San Beda University as the Lady Red Spikers claimed its second straight win with a 25-13, 25-9, 25-21, drubbing of San Sebastian College on Tuesday in the NCAA Season 95 women’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The fourth year skipper finished with 19 points off 13 attacks and six aces and added three excellent receptions while providing stability for San Beda in the closing stretch of the third set to power the Lady Red Spikers to a 2-0 win-loss record, tied with three-time defending champion Arellano University.
San Beda mentor Nemesio Gavino praised his wards for their great service game and for limiting their errors to just 15 compared to 36 miscues they committed in a five-set escape over Jose Rizal University the last time out.
The Lady Red Spikers landed 13 aces and poured 36 attack points.
“Na-lessen namin ang error namin tapos yung service, gumana ang service namin,” said Gavino. “Maraming naging ace ang nangyari so naging maganda para sa amin.”
Nieza Viray added 14 points for San Beda while Ella Viray and Trisha Paras combined for 10 markers.
After cruising in the first two sets and a great start in the third, the Mendiola-based squad suddenly found itself trailing the young Lady Stags, 17-18. The Lady Red Spikers answered with five straight points but SSC-R fought back to move within 23-21.
Racraquin pushed San Beda to match point before Kim Manzano finished off the Lady Stags with a quick kill.
No SSC-R player reached double-figure scoring with Shannai Requirme and Reyann Canete piling up eight and seven points, respectively, in the Lady Stags’ third loss in as many games tied with Lyceum of the Philippines University.
Meanwhile, the Stags barged in the win column after three games with a 25-22, 25-20, 37-35, triumph over the Red Spikers.
Reynald Honra got 19 points with 17 off kills and added 15 excellent receptions while John Mark Lim and Dominique Ramirez finished with 15 and 14 points, respectively, for SSC-R.
San Beda slid to 1-1 card tied with victim Jose Rizal University.
