NCAA: Lady Altas survive upset scare

University of Perpetual Help had some anxious moments early before weathering Mapua University's upset scare, 20-25, 24-26, 25-18, 25-12, 15-6, Friday for its third straight win in the NCAA Season 95 women's volleyball competition at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
Bianca Tripoli led the way on offense with 20 points and provided the leadership as the Lady Altas recovered from a slow start to turn back the Lady Cardinals to improve to 3-1 win-loss record.
Tripoli accounted for 20 of the Las Pinas-based squad's 60 attack points while Jhona Rosal had 15 markers. Shyra Umandal posted 14 points while Dana Persa and Charina Scott finished with 13 and nine markers, respectively, for Perpetual.
Mapua fell to 1-2 slate.
Lorraine Barias scored 15 points with all but one coming off attacks and added 11 digs for the Lady Cardinals. Skipper Alissa Magallanes had 11 markers while Jonina Fernandez tallied 10 for Mapua.
Meanwhile, the defending two-time champion Altas hammered a 25-15, 25-17, 20-25, 25-15, win over the Cardinals for to remain unscathed in four outings for the solo lead.
Louie Ramirez had 15 attacks, three aces and a kill block for a 19-point outing while Ronniel Rosales got 17 markers for Perpetual.
Mapua absorbed its third straight defeat in as many outings.
Alfredo Pagulong, Benedict San Andres and Raje Hizon fired 12 points each in a lost cause.
