It’s the veterans turn to deliver for unbeaten College of St. Benilde.
After taking a back seat in their previous outings, Marites Pablo and Klarisa Abriam showed the way in the Lady Blazers’ fifth straight win following a 25-18, 25-13, 25-17, beating of San Sebastian College in the NCAA Season 95 women’ volleyball competition at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan on Tuesday.
Pablo posted 11 points from eight kills, two aces and a kill block with six excellent receptions while Abriam, who was coming off the heels of a 16-point explosion in a win over Emilio Aguinaldo College last week, had 10 markers and five digs as CSB joined three-time defending champion Arellano University at top spot.
“Ang goal lang namin sa standing ay either first or second lang talaga, at magkaroon kami ng twice-to-beat [advantage sa Final Four],” said CSB assistant coach Jay Chua.
Rookie Gayle Pascual added eight points in just two sets of action while Jade Gentapa at Chelsea Umali combined for 11 markers for the Taft-based squad.
The Lady Stags remained winless after five starts.
SSC-R is now on the brink of missing the next round for the third straight season after a runner-up finish in Season 92.
Reyann Canete scored eight points while Sherielyn Bigata and Kamille Tan got five and four markers, respectively, for the Lady Stags.
In men's play, the Blazers bounced back from a previous setback with a 25-22, 25-16, 25-22, drubbing of the Stags for a 3-2 slate.
Ruvince Abrot teamed up with James Laguit for 21 of CSB's 37 attack points as the duo finished with 14 and 10 markers, respectively.
SSC-R dropped to a 1-4 card tied with idle Jose Rizal University.
