Letran halted a two-game slide to keep its semifinals hopes alive after beating Mapua University, 27-25, 25-14, 25-16, Wednesday in the NCAA Season 95 women’s volleyball competition at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Lady Knights improved to a 2-2 win-loss record to remain on the right track in the race for a Final Four berth.
“Thank You Lord kasi as early as now at least kumbaga sa statistics 50 percent na kami,” said Letran coach Mike Inoferio. “So we only have to maintain our intensity and then 'yung paano maglaro 'yung mga bata at dagdagan pa para mag-improve pa sa standing namin. Although it's early to say pero siyempre gusto namin makapasok sa top four.”
Chamberlaine Cunada powered Letran over their Intramuros neighbor with 16 points, all from attacks, and added 18 digs for an all-around performance. Julienne Castro provided support on offense with 12 points while Kathleen Dela Cruz and Charm Simborio combined for 11 markers for the Lady Knights.
Letran capitalized on its good service game to land 10 aces including four from Simborio and disrupt Mapua’s offense. The Lady Knights hammered down 37 attack points with the help of Simborio’s 17 excellent sets.
Mapua slid to a 1-3 card at the seventh spot.
No Lady Cardinal scored in double figures with Jonina Fernandez and Lorraine Barias putting up only seven points each.
