Filipino MMA veteran Eric "The Natural" Kelly couldn't sustain a strong start, as he faded and eventually fell to former ONE Championship lightweight titleholder Kotetsu Boku of Japan by TKO in the third round of their featherweight contest, Saturday evening at the CotaiArena in Macau.
Kelly, 35, stunned Boku in the opening round, dropping the Japanese brawler and staying in dominant position for the rest of the round.
Kelly appeared to have gassed himself out coming into the second round moving a lot slower than his older opponent. Boku on the other hand appeared to be as fresh as he was at the start of the bout and began to take over, picking Kelly apart with strikes.
The 40-year old Boku continued to pressure Kelly in the third round, stuffing all of the exhausted Pinoy's takedowns.
In the final sequence of the bout, Kelly once again tried to shoot and Boku sprawled and began to punish the former title challenger with ground-and-pound.
Kelly was unable to mount any defense, forcing the referee to step in and end the bout.
"The Natural" gets a rude return to the cage after over a year off, as he loses his third straight contest, all via stoppage.
Boku on the other hand, scores his second straight victory.
