Team Lakay rising star Joshua Pacio couldn't fight off the python-like grip of Japanese newcomer Hayato Suzuki, ultimately being forced to tap out via rear naked choke in the first round of their strawweight contest at ONE Championship: Kings and Conquerors, Saturday evening at the CotaiArena in Macau.
Pacio started aggressively, firing off kicks, but that proved to be the start of his downfall, as the Japanese grappler waited for his moment to grab hold of the young Pinoy's back.
Suzuki pushed off the cage and eventually got Pacio down, locking the 21-year old up and working towards a choke.
The former strawweight title challenger fought Suzuki's efforts off as long as he could, but the stronger Japanese fighter ultimately found his way around Pacio's neck, locking up a rear naked choke and getting the submission win at the 3:17 mark of the first stanza.
Pacio suffers only his the second loss of his young career, but could have likely also lost his spot at the top of the strawweight contenders list.
Suzuki on the other hand, makes an immediate splash in the division as he improves to 17-0 in his career.
