Ben Askren needed only 57 seconds to put away Shinya Aoki in Singapore
Ben Askren believes that he's been the best welterweight in the world.
Friday night at ONE: Immortal Pursuit in Singapore, Askren, in his retirement fight, backed his words up by demolishing former ONE lightweight champion and Asian MMA legend Shinya Aoki in just under a minute.
Regarded as one of the most dangerous grapplers in the world, Aoki immediately pulled guard, which would eventually lead to his downfall.
Askren slammed Aoki to the mat and picked his shots from inside the Japanese legend's guard.
One clean shot from Askren had Aoki covering up, and the unbeaten American finished the job with more strikes shortly after.
The stoppage came at 57 seconds of the first round.
Askren retires with an unbeaten 18-0 record with one no contest, but more importantly, he retires as the reigning ONE welterweight world champion.
