ONE CEO: Our world champions can compete with anyone
"Our world champions are genuinely the very, very best amongst the best in the world, and can compete head to head against any other organization."

Leading up to ONE Championship's final show in Singapore for 2018, a lot of the attention was put on retiring welterweight champion Ben Askren.

During the pre-fight presser, Askren said that he believed himself to be the best welterweight in the world, in spite of what rankings may say.

Friday night in Singapore, Askren put a stamp on that claim by destroying world-class grappler Shinya Aoki and retiring with an unbeaten record and two unblemished world title runs in two different world class promotions.

While not many people will back Askren up on his claim of being 'the best welterweight in the world', ONE Championship chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong is behind his now-former welterweight champion.

"The reality is [Ben Askren] is the best [welterweight] in the world, and anyone who does martial arts for real, anyone who’s part of RoufuSport, or anybody who’s in the US martial arts gyms, everyone knows who the real number one is in the world." Sityodtong said. "Everyone knows"

And this isn't just about Askren.

Sityodtong firmly believes that the roster of world champions from ONE can go head to head with the world champions from North American MMA giant the UFC.

"We have invited the UFC openly. Their world champions versus our world champions. Let's go."

Brandon Vera vs. Stipe Miocic?

Martin Nguyen vs. Max Holloway or Conor McGregor?

Bibiano Fernandes vs. TJ Dillashaw?

Angela Lee vs. Rose Namajunas?

All interesting and intriguing matchups, to say the least.

Many consider ONE Championship as the leading MMA promotion in the Eastern Hemisphere, while the UFC controls the west.

Sityodtong's challenge however, doesn't just stop at the UFC. The ONE boss believes that their world champions can go head to head with anyone.

"Our world champions are genuinely the very, very best amongst the best in the world, and can compete head to head against any other organization."

While it's not likely that we do see these matchups any time soon, it's definitely interesting to see how ONE's title holders would perform against other world champions from other organizations all over the world.
