Team Lakay’s Joshua Pacio willing to put school on hold to prepare for possible title shot
While Team Lakay strawweight star Joshua Pacio has maintained that he isn’t too focused on chasing a title shot yet and would rather keep gaining experience, he also isn’t one to turn down another opportunity at world championship gold.
Currently riding a two-fight winning streak, both coming via impressive stoppages, Pacio knows that at any moment, ONE Championship could decide to give him another chance at the world title.
“Kung gusto ng ONE, I’m very willing din,” Pacio said during the post-even press conference for ONE: Global Superheroes at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The 22-year old is fresh off a masterful first-round submission win over China’s Lan Ming Qiang, and a showdown with reigning ONE strawweight world champion Alex Silva could be in the horizon.
Should the Asian MMA giant decide to grant the Baguio City native another shot at gold, Pacio says that he’ll be pulling out all the stops to make sure that he’s good and ready for it, even if it means putting school on hold for a bit.
Pacio is currently taking up Hotel and Restaurant Management at the University of the Cordilleras.
As for the potential matchup with Silva, Pacio knows that he has the edge in striking over the Brazilian grappler.
He believes that should they meet in the cage, Silva will do all that he can to bring the fight to the ground.
