“As much as possible, ayaw mong makikita ulit sa mukha nila yung the same sadness na na-feel nila nung natalo ako the last time," - Eduard Folayang
It’s been six months since we last saw former ONE Championship Lightweight champion Eduard ‘The Landslide’ Folayang set foot inside the cage.
It’s also been six months since we saw him get violently knocked out by Martin Nguyen at in Manila.
As Folayang crashed on the mat, a stunned silence fell over the Mall of Asia Arena.
The Team Lakay star was at the peak of his career, and to see it all come crashing down was quite a bitter sight for the Filipino fans.
Truth be told, it would be hard to imagine how Folayang’s loved ones must have felt during that moment.
That’s the very thing that the former champion hopes to avoid when Folayang makes his highly-anticipated return to the cage at ONE Championship: Unstoppable Dreams at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
Folayang revealed that members of his family would be there to watch as he takes on undefeated Russian newcomer Kharun Atlangeriev.
“Andyan din yung parents ko, yung nanay ko and yung father ko, pati yung kapatid ko, darating.”
Having family around is one thing, but for Folayang, making sure that they don’t see another painful loss is a different motivator altogether.
Folayang hopes that this time around, his family will see him get his hands raised at the end of the night.
“As much as possible, ayaw mong makikita ulit sa mukha nila yung the same sadness na na-feel nila nung natalo ako the last time, and napaka-laking motivation [nun]’
“Hindi lang motivation kundi pati yung prayers talaga nila na binibigay nila, not just for me to win, but also for the safety of everyone.” Folayang added.
Folayang talks about his family at the 2:22 mark.
