After a six-month hiatus, former ONE Championship Lightweight world champion Eduard Folayang finally made his return to the cage last Friday and got back on the winning track after stifling Russian grappler Kharun Atlangeriev en route to a unanimous decision win at ONE: Unstoppable Dreams in Singapore.
It was Folayang's first fight back since losing his ONE world title to Martin Nguyen in Manila back in November of 2017.
The previously unbeaten Atlangeriev was a good test to see just where Folayang was in his career, and after a dominant three-round showing, it was clear that 'The Landslide' was in fact back.
When asked how he would have graded his performance however, the Team Lakay star gave himself a three out of five, saying that he knows he could definitely have done more.
"Okay lang naman, although alam ko na deep inside na mas ma-eexceedan ko pa yung performance ko this night."
With his return win already in the bag, Folayang now sets his sights on returning to the top of the mountain, which could lead him to a rematch with Nguyen.
Seeing Nguyen's last two fights, a unanimous decision loss to Bibiano Fernandes for the ONE Bantamweight World Championship and a split decision win over Christian Lee in a ONE Featherweight world title defense, Folayang can't help but feel as if he could have performed better.
"Kapag tinitignan ko yung dalawang fight ni Martin, parang nanghihinayang talaga ako eh, nanghihinayang talaga ako sa result nung last, pero of course, tapos na yun."
"Gusto ko ulit i-try." Folayang added.
Arguably the biggest takeaway for the Baguio City native in his comeback fight is that his drive is still there.
"Andyan naman na yung dating pakiramdam eh, parang on that moment lang talaga, dun ko lang talaga na-test kung still, andun pa yung fire sa paglalaro, and nakita ko naman talagang andun pa."
Folayang adds that the desire from redemption is even stronger.
"Yung dream na makuha yung redemption, mas lalong nag-baga."
