It was a rough outing for Team Lakay featherweight Edward ‘The Ferocious’ Kelly, as he was stopped in the second round by former ONE Featherweight World Champion Narantungalag Jadambaa at ONE Championship: Pinnacle of Power, Saturday evening at the Studio City Events Center in Macau, China.
After a striking exchange to open the round, Kelly went in for the clinch against the ultra-durable Jadambaa.
The former champion easily took Kelly down, which set the tone for the rest of the match moving forward.
After getting trapped in side-control, Kelly found his way back up and managed to escape a half-hearted choke attempt from Jadambaa.
Kelly again tried to impose his striking, narrowly missing a spinning heel kick and a back elbow before getting taken down again late in the round.
It was more of the same in round two, as Jadambaba began to outmuscle the Pinoy fighter, scoring takedowns at will.
Midway through the round, Kelly managed to survive a tight choke from Jadambaa, but the Mongolian still wound up getting a takedown late in the round, which was the beginning of the end for the Pinoy.
With mere seconds left in the round, Jadambaa transitioned into back-mount and began punishing Kelly with punches to the head.
With just two seconds left in the round, Jadambaa turned it up and eventually got the stoppage just in the nick of time.
The official stoppage came in at 2:58 of the second round.
Kelly has his momentum snapped as he falls to 10-5 in his MMA career.
Jadambaa on the other hand, makes a successful return to action being on the shelves for more than a year. He improves to 13-5 in his MMA career.
